A heavily peated malt for smoked beers or smoky whisky, produced using a peat-fired kiln at our maltings in Glenesk, Scotland.
HOW IT'S MADE
This malt is produced at our Pauls Malt Ltd. facility in Glenesk, Montrose, Scotland. With high phenol levels derived from locally sourced Scottish peat, it can be used in smoked porters and ales. Peated malt is produced using the same regimes as (standard) distilling malt, whereby peat smoke from the peat-fired kiln passes through the bed of malt in the kiln.
